Social Impact Lab project library

CCEL’s Social Impact Lab project library contains reports and infographics documenting the social impact work conducted by staff and students in partnership with community organizations and partners in Vancouver. We hope this resource is helpful as a database to support and inspire further work around community-rooted social justice, equity and access issues.

Access for all: Building a culture of authentic inclusion

The Access for all program was made in partnership with STEPS Forward alongside community experts as an insightful dialogue for UBC students to unlearn ableism embedded in everyday thinking and rethink accessibility throughout their academic journey. The event also included discussion on methods to foster more inclusive environments.

Reframing Marpole: From isolation to connection

The Reframing Marpole initiative was created in partnership with Marpole Neighbourhood House. It provided an opportunity for UBC students and community partners from Marpole to examine, analyze and gain a deeper understanding of the unique dynamics that shaped the community.

Mapping Mount Pleasant: Connecting communities

The Mapping Mount Pleasant event was a collaborative initiative developed in partnership with Mount Pleasant Community Centre. It provided UBC students and community experts from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside an opportunity to learn about MPCC’s Meal programs, its challenges and engage in meaningful conversations around food justice and systemic challenges. The event consisted of hands-on systems thinking activities and participation in the community kitchen, where participants helped prepare a meal for the MPCC Soup Kitchen Program.

Climate Action Mobilizers (CAM) project

The Climate Action Mobilizers (CAM) Project was a 2-year initiative that aimed to empower UBC students to tackle social and climate justice issues to address the climate emergency.

CAM engaged with neighbourhoods and communities in Vancouver to collaborate in the development and implementation of climate action projects to address the climate crisis.

Events and projects included workshops, panels, and climate walks with community members of various ages and backgrounds.
