Advancing Community Engaged Learning Fund

Advancing Community Engaged Learning Fund

The Centre for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) works to connect communities with UBC faculty and students to work on issues that impact society. The Centre’s Advancing Community Engaged Learning fund awards grants of up to $3000 to faculty, academic administrators, or staff. The purpose of the fund is to provide opportunities to develop, innovate, evaluate, and improve approaches, resources and systems that enable community engaged learning courses, programs, and initiatives to grow and sustain at UBC.

Strong requests will demonstrate one or more of the following:

This year’s funding will focus on building the capacity of faculty, students and community partners to meaningfully engage in face to face, online and hybrid models of Community Engaged Learning. Funded projects are expected to include a demonstrable output that other practitioners can learn from and adapt for their practice.

  • The project improves upon, or seeks to create resources, systems, and/or structural supports that hold potential for the transformative learning potential of various models of community engaged learning practice and initiatives.
  • The project seeks to advance community engaged learning at the program, departmental and/or Faculty level through expanding understanding and appreciation of the value and impact of community engaged learning.
  • The project takes an equity lens by proactively seeking the perspectives of historically marginalized populations throughout its development, implementation, and evaluation of outputs and/or outcomes.

Examples

In an effort to bring the above guidelines to life, we offer a few examples below, but we would stress this is not an exhaustive list. We are excited to learn from applicants and to share our learning with others so please do not be constrained by these ideas!

  1. Developing resources and tools to support students engage more meaningfully with their community partners and/or to enable students to deliver quality products of work.
  2. Developing an evaluation or assessment framework to demonstrate the impact on student learning or community capacity.
  3. Developing resources, platforms and educational material with community partners to address community priorities and enrich learning and knowledge translation.

Note: Applications will be accepted until funds are expended. Recipients will be notified on a rolling basis.
