UBC Let’s Talk Science School Partnerships Program Enhances STEM Education in Metro Vancouver

This term, the UBC Let’s Talk Science School Partnerships Program (SPP) has been actively enhancing K-12 education opportunities across Metro Vancouver. Our dedicated UBC volunteers have been delivering engaging, hands-on STEM activities to young learners, enriching their understanding and appreciation of science.

Collaborations with UBC Clubs

This year, SPP had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with two campus clubs to bring new and unique educational experiences to students.

UBC International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) Team

The UBC iGEM Team created a series of activities that focused on genetic engineering, GMOs, and synthetic biology. Through these sessions, students were able to explore the world of cutting-edge biotechnology and gain insight into the possibilities of genetic science.

UBC Vaccine Literacy Club (VLC)

The VLC designed a set of activities centered on immunology, virology, and public health. Students learned about the science behind vaccines, how our immune system works, and the importance of public health initiatives.

Impact on Students

Thanks to the hard work of our UBC Let’s Talk Science volunteers, over 100 students have gained valuable knowledge in cutting-edge science and research. These specialized sessions have introduced students to concepts they might not typically encounter in their regular science courses. The program will continue its efforts throughout the spring, with more visits scheduled until June.

Appreciation for Our Volunteers

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing UBC Let’s Talk Science volunteers. Their dedication to advancing STEM education in our communities is truly inspiring. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of their work on the next generation of scientists and innovators!
