Celebrating IBPOC Voices in Youth Climate Action

EVENT OVERVIEW

Students and community members gathered for a community conversation that amplified and empowered Indigenous, Black and People of Colour (IBPOC) youth leadership and climate action. Diverse guest speakers shared lived experiences on belonging and intersectionality in relation to climate action, and inspired conversations around inclusion with 54 participants. This was followed by the opportunity for attendees to connect and collectively map Vancouver IBPOC community assets in a Community Constellation activity.

The event started with a collective breathing exercise that grounded and prepared participants for the intensive topics ahead. This was followed by 3 event components:

1. Overview of event objectives, and climate and culture

2. Panel Discussion and Q&A with:

  • Alex Thomas, Tlowitsis and Sechelt First Nation and project lead for Homegrown Climate Justice Project
  • Sam Kutyauripo, Zimbabwean and Program Coordinator for Youth Climate Corps

3. Community Constellation Activity
